Books

Here is a list of books I recommend you read.

More Than Words: Helping Parents Promote Communication and Social Skills in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders by Fern Sussman
This is a great book for younger kids. Not about diet but a great book to have under your belt before you start BIOMED because you'll need to know how to make the best of all the new developmental milestones right? Highly recommended reading, especially for those kids who are non-verbal. Contact your regional center service coordinator and request a free copy. It's hard to find a reasonably prices copy so learn from my mistake and try to get it free first.

The Kid-Friendly ADHD and Autism Cookbook: The Ultimate Guide to the Gluten-Free, Casein-Free Diet by Pamela Compart, M.D. and Dana Laake, R.D.H., M.S., L.D.N.
The best kid-friendly recipes and guide to the gluten-free milk-free diet for ADHD and Autism. What it is. Why it works. How to do it. You can check this book out at the Redding Library. This was the first book I read about the link between Autism and digestive health. If you read only one book this year make it this one. It's a must read book for any parent of a child on the spectrum or with ADHD.

Children with Starving Brains: A Medical Treatment Guide for Autism Spectrum Disorder by Jaquelyn McCandless, Teresa Binstock, and Jack Zimmerman
In the midst of a worldwide epidemic of autism, ADD, and ADHD, this book is a message of hope to parents embarking on the challenging journey of finding proper medical care for their Autism Spectrum Disorder children. Genetic susceptibility activated by "triggers" such as pesticides and heavy metals in vaccines can lead to immune system impairment, gut dysfunction, and pathogen invasion such as yeast and viruses in many children. This is the first book written by an experienced clinician that gives a step-by-step treatment guide for parents and doctors based on the understanding that ASD is a complex biomedical illness resulting in significant brain malnutrition. Dr. McCandless, whose grandchild with autism has inspired her "broad spectrum approach," describes important diagnostic tools needed to select appropriate treatment programs. Her book explains major therapies newly available and identifies safe and effective options for parents and physicians working together to improve the health of these special children.

Enzymes for Autism and other Neurological Conditions:
The Practical Guide for Digestive Enzymes and Better Behavior
Karen L. DeFelice
Enzyme therapy is one of the fastest emerging successful alternatives for people on the autism spectrum as well as other neurological conditions. Reports of significant improvements in health, pain reduction, language, food tolerance, socializing and other benefits emerge daily. Drawing on long-standing scientific research and trials by a wide range of families, Karen DeFelice deals comprehensively with all the information on enzymes that parents or those new to enzymes need: how enzymes work, who may benefit, what to expect, practical tested advice on selecting and introducing the right kind of enzymes, and how this can be combined with other approaches and therapies.
I just started reading this in June 2010
